perfidious: Old friend Joel Johnson scores a crushing brevity in his old favourite 7.f5 after his strong, experienced opponent incautiously accepts the pawn.

The improvement 10....h5 was tried in this game, T Shadrina vs A Bodnaruk, 2008, though somehow it hardly seems convincing; better to play 7....Nge7 and avoid this morass altogether!

perfidious: <FSR>, in our numerous games, the only time I tried a Sicilian against Joel I actually went in for 7....Nge7 as mentioned nearly twelve years ago; got the better position before blundering in the middlegame.

Joel was always a strong, aggressive opponent and I had particular trouble against him from 1979 through 1984, when I finally notched a win.
