Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-02-05  Whitehat1963: Is this a premature resignation? What happens after 42...Rxa7? Either the game score is wrong or white has something clever that I can't see.
Oct-02-05  ughaibu: 43.Rb6
Oct-02-05  Whitehat1963: I guess it doesn't have to be so clever at all, does it?

An Englishman: Good Morning: Fontein should have played on one more move anyhow--where is the win after 42...Kg7? If 43.Rxf8,Kxf8; 44.Rb7,Kg7. If 43.Rcb7,Rxa7. If 43.a8/Q,Rxa8. So what am I missing?
Oct-02-05  ughaibu: 44.Rc8

An Englishman: Good Morning: ughaibu, you mean 43.Rxf8,Kxf8; 44.Rc8+, right? Looks convincing to me.
Oct-02-05  meloncio: <Whitehat1963><I guess it doesn't have to be so clever at all, does it?> Notice that after ughaibu's 43.♖b6+ black will lose a whole rook.

Oct-02-05  fgh: Another possibility for white after 42. ... Rxa7 is 43. Rc6+ and white wins easily.
Oct-02-05  notsodeepthought: <fgh> I think it has to be 43 Rb6+ as suggested by <ughaibu>, not 43 Rc6+, because that would be followed by .. Kg7.
Apr-04-08  Knight13: Black basically just let White grab the seventh rank. That's suicide!
Sep-04-08  zanboryaa: ZANBORYAA:if 42...Rxa7???,then the crashing 43.Rb6+...fellowed by 44.Rxa7 WINNING A COMPLETE Whitehat1963 attention...
