Oct-20-05  Autoreparaturwerkbau: I guess there's nothing black can do after losing the rook (?)
Oct-20-05  Runemaster: <Auto> Thanks for pointing this one out. Perhaps this was not the complete game and Black really played on but eventually lost.

If not, I think Black resigned too early. He can't save the rook on h8, but there were some things worth trying.

Black could have tried 13...Qd6 and if 14.Nxh8 f4 wins the bishop on e3. Then White is in some trouble, as his king is still in the centre and he might lose the knight on h8.

However, White should play 14.Bf4 before taking the rook on h8. Even then, though, White might lose the knight on h8 and he has to think quiickly about getting his king out of the centre.

Oct-20-05  Runemaster: Better for Black, I think is to try 13...Qe8. Then if 14.Nxh8 f4 15.Bxf4 Bg4+ wins the White queen. The Black queen on e8 not only immediately attacks the knight on g6, but also stops the knight escaping on f7 or g6 after taking the rook.

Probably Black became depressed after 13.Ng6 and gave up too easily (even if he didn't resign immediately). This was one of those cases where things were perhaps not as bad as they seemed at first sight.

Feb-18-07  Rubenus: Why is there a * next to black's third move?
