Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-23-04  rndapology: Are these real games or just Greco showing off variations? This is just like another game by Greco, but this time black tries capturing the bishop after the rook check?
Feb-23-04  drukenknight: It's more like Greco's collection of miniatures. I guess we really dont know but if Greco is as smart as I think he is, he is trying to tell us something in the only way he knows how.
Oct-12-04  InspiredByMorphy: Same game without the bishop being captured ... Greco vs NN, 1620
Dec-12-04  Knight13: Glad NN did see the fork trick. But he still lost.
Mar-11-06  Autoreparaturwerkbau: Gee! What an ending!
Jun-11-06  FiveMinutesToWapner: Greco vs NN, 1620 doesn't even make sense. Black obviously saw the fork, for he didn't take the bishop. But how could he then not have seen the mate? Greco's just working through variations.
Aug-30-08  Oregon104: <FiveMinutesToWapner> Seeing a fork and seeing a 3-move forced mate combination isn't the same thing. When white plays <8. d4>, which sets up the forced mate, the black queen only has 2 squares to safely go. After that, it's a 3-move forced mate (unless black gives up the queen). I don't think it's unreasonable to believe that NN didn't see the 3-move combo.
Feb-07-13  RPdigital: White should play 6.Nxe5 if black plays Qxe5, then 7.Re1 pinning the Queen and King.
Oct-01-14  Anton Stortchilov: ...and trade Knight+Rook+Bishop against Queen+Pawn? I'm not sure this is a better idea than the actual line.
May-19-17  Yigor: It's similar to the previous #40 Greco-NN game/composition with the same blunder 4...Qxe4?? accepting the La Bourdonnais gambit. Maybe the first appearance of double checkmate.
Jun-22-19  sea7kenp: Boy, those Double Checks are Powerful!
