Kibitzer's Corner
May-03-04  iron maiden: Everyone should learn this trap; you'll snare many a Philidor player with it.
May-03-04  Calchexas: Why 4. h3? If Greco really composed this game, it's hard to believe he missed 4. Nc3 g6? (etc.) 5. Nxe5 and continue to Legal's mate.
May-03-04  mkochhal: (Calchexas) I think white will still need some good strategy to force a legal mate in a few moves.

(iron_maiden) Everyone meaning, the ones playing with black pieces should learn the trap?? It seems to me that black is getting a lot of beating :-)

May-03-04  iron maiden: No, no, I said that you'd snare many a Philidor player ("snare" basically in this case another word for "defeat") with it. Of course, if you're Black and you're a Philidor player (please let us know you exist) you should also learn the trap so that you can stay out of it.
May-03-04  Calchexas: <mkochhal>: after 5.Nxe5! Bxd1 6.Bxf7+ Ke7 7.Nd5#. Yeah, if Black takes the Knight instead of the Queen, it's a little harder, but White's still up a pawn...
May-13-04  Cloud: I play philidor , and the one thing you need to do (as a philidor player) is know various white styles of playing against you . Philidor is a turtles shell opening. It says "come and get me " all over it . Philidor is the common drawing weapon, and also has a suprise element to it , beacause white really never sees it much any more.
Aug-29-04  morphy234: This looks just like Morphy's opera game! Except it's not.
Oct-12-04  InspiredByMorphy: Grecos 3.Bc4 instead of 3.d4 is starting to look convincing.
Nov-16-04  Knight13: I have enjoyed this game very much. This game tells me that you need to watch out for Bxf7+.
Mar-04-05  InspiredByMorphy: According to the database 3. ...Nc6 is the most common move. Opening Explorer I however like 3. ...f5
Apr-11-13  Conrad93: <I play philidor , and the one thing you need to do (as a philidor player) is know various white styles of playing against you . Philidor is a turtles shell opening.
