plang: 12 Nge4 was an inaccuracy allowing Black to take over the initiative; 12 Nce4 would have maintained equality. After 30 e4? weakening d4 and then 38 b4? White was positionally lost. White sealed 41 Qc2 but resigned without resuming. Boleslavsky gave 41..Nc5 42 f3..g4 43 Bxb4..Qxb4 44 Re2..Rd3 45 fxg..Red8 46 Rb2..Nxe4 with irresistible threats as one possibility.

The line with 5 e3 (rather than 5 e4) gives White nothing and does not inhibit Black from playing the type of game he expects when he chooses the Kings Indian.
