Nov-01-03  dorn: Why 52.Rf8?? After 52.Rg8 Pono should give up.

patzer2: <dorn> Your 52. Rg8 is indeed the move Anand should have chosen! It's almost as if white found the one move to throw away the win in 52. Rf8?? In addition to your 52. Rg8! (threatening 53. g4! and mate to follow), also winning for white was 52. Qf8+ or 52. Rb6 or 52. f4 or 52. g4.

  patzer2: After <dorn>'s 52. Rg8 (white' s best move), Fritz 8 analyzes the following variations (@15/50 depth & 771kN/s) as

2. (20.16) 52...Qd4 53. Qf8+ Kh5 54. e7 Qd6+ 55. f4 Ra2 56. e8Q Rxg2+ 57. Kxg2 Qd2+ 58. Kf1 Qc1+ 59. Kf2 Qd2+ 60. Qe2+ Qxe2+

3. (20.16) 52...Ra2 53. Qf8+ Kg5 54. e7 Ra8 55. f4+ Qxf4+ 56. Qxf4+ Kxf4

4. (#15) 52...Ra4 53. e7 Qf4+ 54. Qxf4+

5. (#13) 52...c4

Nov-02-03  dorn: Wishy dropped the piece too soon, I think. It's rapid chess... (In fact he had time advantage at the moment AFAIR).
