Apr-18-22  cehertan: Those devilish K+P endings! While theory will often guide you well, there are other instances that require accurate brute force calculation that can run up to dozens of moves! And as this one demonstrates again, the optics can be quite different from reality. You would think black was the aggressor here:

But after his 36..d4? black loses the kingside battle on 37.cxd4+ ♔xd4 38.♔d6 ♔e3 39.♔e5. So black had to play instead 36..♔e4 37.♔d6 f3 38.gxf3 ♔xf3 39.♔xd5 ♔g4 40.♔e4!? (40.b3 equal) 40..♔xh4 41.♔f4 ♔h3 42.b3 (continued)

Apr-18-22  cehertan: After 42.b3 (analysis)

now the only move to hold is 42..♔g2!! ditching the h-pawn but holding after 43.♔g5 ♔f3. Instead 42..h4 would lose to 43.♔f3 ♔h2 44.c4 h3 45.♔f2 ♔h1 46.c5 h2 47.c6 a5 48.c7 axb4 49.♔g3!
