Kibitzer's Corner
May-31-18  Delboy: Nimzowitsch reincarnated
Nov-28-22  Brenin: The power of a double check! 49 ... Rc2+ 50 Kxc2 (Kb3 Qc3 mate) Qc3+ 51 Kd1 Qd2 mate
Nov-28-22  Brenin: White missed a win with 23 Rxb7+ Qxb7 24 Rxb7+ Kxb7 25 Bxe5 dxe5 26 Qxc5 followed by advance of the d-pawn. After that he was slowly going downhill.
Nov-28-22  Mayankk: Black is a Rook down and its Knight is threatened. It needs a quick mating solution and fortunately there is one readily available via 49 ... Rc2+. If 50 Kb3 then Qc3#. Else 50 Kxc2 Qc3+ 51 Kd1 Qd2#.

But my suspicion is that there may be other non-dramatic solutions too as the White King is quitte vulnerable.

Nov-28-22  King.Arthur.Brazil: Even though 49... ♖b3+ 50. ♔xb3 ♘d2+ 51. ♔... ♘xf3 (you know, the King loves to capture the enemy's ♕), but the wining move is another ♖ sacrifice: 49.... ♖c2+ (where 50. ♔b3 ♕c3#, so the ♖ must be captured which leads to another check-mate: 50. ♔xc2 ♕c3+ 51. ♔d1 ♕d2#. Good week!
Nov-28-22  mel gibson: Too easy but an interesting position.
Nov-28-22  TheaN: Late nighter but this one speaks for itself: Black has two double checks to choose from (and plenty of regular discovered checks but they don't do much). <49....Rc2+> is mate in three, after <50.Kxc2 (Kb3 Qc3#) Qc3+ 51.Kd1 Qd2#>.

Surprisingly, the alternative is a draw after 49....Rb3+ 50.Ka2 Rxa3+ 51.Kxa3 Qc3+ and Black can hold a perpetual but being a rook down there's no alternative. So, Rc2 and mate instead.

Nov-28-22  Nullifidian: 49... ♖c2+ 50. ♔xc2 (♔b3 ♕c3#) ♕c3+ 51. ♔d1 ♕d2#
Nov-28-22  saturn2: White is up a rook and threatens Qf8 or Qxe4

After 49...Rc2 50.Kb3 or 50.Kxc2 white gets mated

Nov-28-22  Gregor Samsa Mendel: Hooray for Mondays.
Nov-28-22  agb2002: Black has a knight and two pawns for a rook and a bishop.

White threatens Bf6.

The rook blocks the queen. This suggests 49... Rc2+ 50.Kxc2 (50.Kb3 Qc3#) 50... Qc3+ 51.Kd1 Qd2#.

Nov-28-22  Chesschronicle22: To easy, althought it was a very interesting puzzle indeed.
Nov-28-22  Cybe: Brenin: White missed a win with 23 Rxb7+ Qxb7 24 Rxb7+ Kxb7 25 Bxe5 dxe5 26 Qxc5 followed by advance of the d-pawn. After that he was slowly going downhill.

White can not 26. Q:c5, because queen is on a4 square. After 23. R:b7+, Q:b7, 24. R:b7+, K:b7, 25. Qb5+!

Nov-28-22  Cheapo by the Dozen: Obviously a rook sacrifice.

My first thought was to win the queen with ... Rb3+. But it turns out that Black starts so far behind in material that winning queen for rook doesn't impress.

Fortunately, the other option of ... Rc2+ leads to a quick mate.

Nov-28-22  Damenlaeuferbauer: After long thinking, the strong Italian IM Stefano Tatai, who was 12 times (!) national champion of his country, finally found the mate in 3 moves with the nice rook sacrifice 49.-,Rc2++! 50.Kxc2 (50.Kb3,Qc3#),Qc3+ 51.Kd1,Qd2#. <Cybe> and <Brenin> are right: After 23.Rxb7+!,Qxb7 24.Rxb7+,Kxb7 25.Qb5+!,Ka8/Kc8/Kc7 26.Bxe5!,dxe5 27.Qxc5(+), black is busted und white will win with his 3 passed pawns!
Nov-28-22  stacase: Discovered double check! Is there any other kind? Well anyway looks great but does it work?

After longer than it should have taken, yes, it works (-:

Nov-28-22  Brenin: <Cybe>: Thanks, I intended 26 Qb5+ and then 27 Qxc5, but omitted to type a move. Unfortunately, a Q cannot move like a N.
