plang: Volkov is one of the leading experts in the MacCutcheon variation. At the 1999 Geller Memorial tournament Filipenko had played 13 exf against Volkov and the game had ended in a draw; 13 Qh5 was new. After White's clever 18 Bxf5! Black had nothing better than to return the piece with 19..Be6 as both 19..Kf8 20 Rfd1..Qc4 21 Qg6 and 19..Qa5 20 Qe8+..Kh7 21 Rxh6+..Kxh6 22 Qxh8+..Kg6 23 Qe8+..Kh6 24 Rd1 would have been very strong for White.

The final position was better for White but resignation seems a bit premature.
