plang: Akopian nursed a small advantage throughout the middlegame and then outplayed Sorokin in the endgame. 39..f5!? was a concession but Black was concerned about the possibility of White playing f5 followed by Ke3 and Kf4. Due to the pawn structure Black had to avoid pawn endgames: ie. 44..Re8 45 Re3..Rxe3 46 fxe..Kb7 47 Kb5..a6+ 48 Ka4..Kc7 49 49 axb+..Kxb6 50 d6..Kc6 51 Ka5..Kxd6 52 Kxa6 and White wins. 46..b5 was hopeless but Black was lost at that point.
