Apr-07-05  Abaduba: How does Black come away with more than a pawn after 33. ♕d1 ? Any help?
Apr-07-05  Kangaroo: 33. Qd1 Rb2 - threatening with a check-mate on g2 and many other dark prospectives for White.
Apr-07-05  Boomie: 33. ♕d1 ♘xf4 threatens mate on g2.
Apr-09-05  Kangaroo: To <Boomie>:
Your suggestion
33. Qd1 Nxf4 threatens mate on g2
looks nice, but I am too lazy to consider the consequences of 33. Qg4 + (no return for the Knight on g6, because of unprotected black Queen).

Regrettably, we cannot contact the author < Alexander Grischuk > and ask him what he had in mind ... .

Apr-09-05  Boomie: Hi, <Kangaroo>. This is a poisoned knight variation.

33. ♕d1 ♘xf4 34. ♕g4+ ♔h7 35. ♕xf4 (35. ♖xf4 ♖xb1+ #6) 35... ♖g8+ (Winning the ♕)

Apr-10-05  Kangaroo: Hello, <Boomie>!

Thanks for the clarification. I was (as confessed) too lazy.

The reason that explains my laziness is simple:

Why do we need to analyze the alternative solution, having been in agreement about 33. Qd1 Rb2 - with the obvious victory for Black?

If the first solution were not as convincing, we would have to pay more attention to the alternative.

Apr-11-05  Boomie: Hi, Kangaroo. I didn't see the Rb2 line before suggesting Nxf4. Rb2 looks more efficient. Nxf4 looks more artistic with the piece sac.
