fredthebear: If 24...RxQd8 25.Nxe5+ fork gets back the queen w/interest. Akopian's swell combination is more surprising than it is materially damaging, as Black declines to accept the queen offer (after accepting bishop and rook) and turns out safe on the queenside. White is able to keep an initiative, which he gradually capitalizes on.

Black does well to prevent the White queen from entering the 7th rank w/an explosive lateral battery. However, Black does not get production from his kingside minor pieces.

Eventually, 37.Nxe5 opens the long diagonal for the White queen. The White knight's pawn capture and central advance becomes a big factor in the outcome as a possible discovered check mating dance occurs. The cracks in the pawn structure inflicted by White and the control of the center for piece occupation eventually doom Black.
