Nov-29-06  rompsinc: correct me if im wrong but on move 29...r-d2 is a blunder for black. because reshevsky had Rxe8 followed with N-c7+ and winning the bishop on A6. it seems reshevsky missed it too!
Nov-29-06  nescio: <rompsinc: correct me if im wrong but on move 29...r-d2 is a blunder for black. because reshevsky had Rxe8 followed with N-c7+ and winning the bishop on A6. it seems reshevsky missed it too!>

You mean 35...Rd2 36.Rxe8+ I suppose? I agree, moreover Reshevsky could have won easier with 31.Qh8+ (instead of 31.Qd2) Kf7 32.Qxh7+ Bg7 33.Bxg7 Nxg7 34.Rc3. I suspect he was in his usual terrible time-trouble.

Nov-29-06  Karpova: it's 35...Rd2
but you are correct, white could have been up a piece
Jan-20-21  Ned Merrill: I disagree on the 35.Rxe8 and 36.Nc7+ maneuver winning a piece because of 36...Kd8, 37...Kc8 trapping the knight. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Jan-20-21  lentil: after 12 ...Ba6, I see 13 OO? Bxc4 14 bc Rxb2 15 Qxb2 Nfxd4 with a nasty initiative.

I think white can save the knight with:
35. Rxe8 Kxe8 36. Nc7+ Kd8 37. Nxa6 Kc8
38. b4 (threatening 39.bxc5 dxc5 40. Nxc5) and if 38...Kb7, then 39. b5. My analysis sans engine help.

May-23-23  N.O.F. NAJDORF: <rompsinc: correct me if im wrong but on move 29...r-d2 is a blunder for black. because reshevsky had Rxe8 followed with N-c7+ and winning the bishop on A6. it seems reshevsky missed it too!>

Would white have been able to hold onto his extra piece?

For example:

36. Rxe8+ Kxe8 37. Nc7+ Kd7 38. Nxa6 Kc8 39. b4 Kb7 40. b5 Bf8 41. a4 Be7 42. Kf1 Bd8 43. Bc3 Ra2 44. Ra1 Rc2 45. Ra3 Be7 46. Ba5 d5 47. Nc7 d4 48. Nd5 Bd6

May-23-23  N.O.F. NAJDORF: Believe it or not, I have only just seen the discussion of the same line I have given, up to 40 b5.

I still think white would have to give back the knight.
