plang: 9..Rc8 was a new move; normally 9..Qc7 or 9..Qa5 are played. With 15..c4!? Black was counting on getting kingside play with ..f6 but this ended up just creating weaknesses on the kingside dark squares. 16..Qe8 17 Ba3..Bxa4 18 Bd6..Rb7 19 Qb1..Bc6 (apparently forced) would have been awkward for Black. After 35..Rc7 White was completely winning. There were several winning continuations suggested all involving the g5 break; Soltis offered 36 Bxd6 followed by Rg2. The audience was surprised when the draw was agreed to but both Bronstein and Soltis felt that White would have no realistic winning chances after 43 Rxf8+..Qxf8 44 Bxf8..Kxf8 45 Qf1+..Ke8.
