Sneaky: The London Chess Center has an excellent page of coverage on this charity match http://www.chess.co.uk/chapmankaspa...
Oct-28-04  offramp: I would say that that was worth £100,000. Most businessmen are completely forgotten after they are dead, but these games will be around for a long time.

Nowadays, handicapping seems to be done more by time; but Kasparov would have won with, say, 5 mins against 2 hours - he would just have thought in Chapman's time.

cu8sfan: <why is black 2 pawns less?> It says right in the title that this was an <odds match>. White got odds of two pawns.
Feb-01-09  WhiteRook48: even Kasparov can't resist two Qs

Phony Benoni: Sort of an artificially accelerated Benko Gambit.
Feb-06-17  offramp: Two pawns is not a huge amount of material to give as odds. Black also gets to develop his queenside quickly.

Am I alone in thinking that Kasparov, having pocketed £10,000 for this series of games, wanted to give his opponent VFM? I think he might have subconsciously played a little below-par here.

May-26-17  Xeroxx: Material Odds.
