Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-25-06  Autoreparaturwerkbau: One word: bizarre.
Oct-02-06  mjk: I like imagining what Philidor would make of games like this one.
Jun-12-07  Whitehat1963: Strange, complicated orgy of tactics. As short as it is, I'd like to see it thoroughly analyzed.
Dec-02-08  Everett: After 9...gxh6 10.Nxd6 Kf8 <...cxd6 11.Bxf7+ Kf8 12.Bh6#> 11.Bh6+ Kg8 12.Bxf7#
Jun-10-09  outplayer: <Everett> I think that Black can take with the bishop 10...Bxd6.
Feb-17-11  BishopsPawn: <Everett>, I think <outplayer> is right. After 9...gxh5 10. Nxd6 Bxd6, the best White can get is a draw:

11. Bxf7+ Ke7 [if Kf8, 12. Bh6+ Ke7] 12. Bg5+ Kf8

If White declines the draw by repetition with checks by the dark square bishop and instead wins back his queen, he loses a piece and his attack stalls after:

13. Bxd1 Bxe5 14. Bxh5 b6

At least, that's all I can see (I don't have a chess engine). This is where this novice's head starts spinning. What did White have planned if Black accepted the Q sac if not 10. Nxd6 ? I don't see the win. What am I missing? Someone, help!

Oct-31-12  Abdel Irada: <BishopsPawn>: Agreed. I don't think the queen sac with 9. Ne5 is good for more than a draw.
