GrahamClayton: Wild game - Whitaker gets 4 pawns for a piece, but is overwhelmed by the more mobile Black pieces.

MissScarlett: In Hilbert's <Shady Side (Caissa 2000)>, he gives this game (p.387) as <USA - Great Britain Cable Match May 12, 1930>. Given his reputation for exactitude, I changed the respective details only to realise their error and change them back again.

Turning to the body of the text (p.109) only compounds the confusion:

<On March 26, 1930, Whitaker issued a press release for the proposed match. Play was scheduled for April 12, 1930.

[...]

But Whitaker was continuing to have financial problems arranging the match. He received only seventeen dollars from "the rich chess club," as he described the Capital City Chess Club, and The Willard had reduced its promised fifty dollars to twenty-five. Whitaker wrote Lederer that he was afraid of embarrassment for the event, and hoped the New York lawyer might know someone in New York City who might bail them out [Russell Collection, Item No. 1311].

Whatever Whitaker's fears concerning money, the match came off, though rescheduled, on May 12, 1930.>
