Honza Cervenka: 22.Bd3 was a mistake. 22.a4 looks much better.

Honza Cervenka: If 28.Qxd3 (which would have been somewhat better than 28.Nxd3), then 28...Nb1.
May-04-11  JoergWalter: According to Löwenthal's tournament book the white resigned after Blacks 28th move (Nxe4). the year the tournament was played is given as 1862.
Nov-15-13  thomastonk: <JoergWalter> Yes and no.

It seems that the game ended indeed after 28.. ♘xe4, because in addition to Löwenthal's tournament book (p. 357-358), this is also confirmed by the "CPC" of 1861, p. 314-315. I'll submit a correction slip.

The second source shows that the game has not been played in 1862. Löwenthal's book contains London 1862 and Bristol 1861, where this game has been played as the third game of the first round between Paulsen and Kolisch.

Feb-20-16  zanzibar: In the tournament book, p356 Game CLXXXIX, the game is different than that give here (as of today):

CG <5...Bc5 6.O-O d6 7.d4 dxe4>

365 <5...Ba5 6.d4 dxe4 7.O-O d6>

where 365 agrees with the tournament book.

GrahamClayton: 19...c3 is a totally justified sacrifice of a pawn. - Paulsen's knight gains access to c4, the rook takes possession of the open c-file and Kolisch's pieces become entangled and unable to work effectively.
