  tpstar: 6. b3 is a rare sideline in the 2N which often becomes more of a straight-up King's Pawn game than otherwise. I like Black's approach here with 6 ... Nxd5 (also hitting the Ng5), then quick development & 0-0. [Of course Fritz 7 grabs the Two Bishops with 6 ... Nxc4 7. bxc4 Bd6 8. d3=.] After 11. Qe2!? Nd4 sure is tempting, since the direct 11 ... Bxg4 12. Qxg4 Nd4 doesn't win a piece after 13. Qany Nxb5 14. c4. Yet 11. Qe2!? Nd4 12. Qe4 f5!? is wild, or the safe 12 ... Bxf3 ruining White's Kingside. Here 12. Qxe5?! Bxf3 13. Qxd4 Bf6 exploiting the long diagonal like the game. Black showed good tactics but had a quicker win with 36 ... Rb2+.

Psic001-tpstar (QueenAlice 8/16/05) [Fritz 7]: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 d5 5. ed Na5 6. b3 h6 7. Nf3 [=] e4 8. Nd4 [8. Qe2!?] Nxd5 9. Nc3? [9. Bxd5 Qxd5 10. Bb2 ] Nxc4 10. bxc4 Nf4 11. Nce2 Nxg2+ 12. Kf1 Bh3 13. Ng3? Ne3+ and Black won (0-1).

benveniste: In a casual game played yesterday, after 6... ♘xd5 play went:

7. ♕h5 g6
8. ♕f3 ♗e6
9. ♘xe6 fxe6

The poor K-side pawn structure eventually proved to be Black's undoing.

Mar-21-09  blacksburg: some dude just played 6.b3 against me on FICS. i'm not going to lie, my mind was blown. imagine my surprise when i found it in the opening explorer. nothing new under the sun, i suppose.
