Phony Benoni: <Messiah> Thank you. Good puns are supposed to be terrible. That's why they elicit groans.

catlover: Good miniature and a funny pun.
Feb-18-23  stone free or die: <catlover: Good miniature and a funny pun.>

Yes, it's a classic. Here's hoping that <phony> is looking down, smiling.

<<kp> A consummation devoutly to be wished.>

Terrible <kp>! (He said with a chuckle).

Feb-18-23  LivBlockade: Nice miniature. The pun reminds me of one of mine.

P Popovic vs Gligoric, 1995

Feb-18-23  nalinw: Lovely pun ..... remembering our one and only PB
Feb-18-23  SeanAzarin: The pin truly is mightier than the sword... especially when a piece is pinned to the King.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Spectacular pun. In fact, when the puns reach this level, the games often don't match the quality, but the mating pattern in this one don't happen every day.

FSR: Glad to see that the late, great <Phony Benoni> is still contributing to the site.

HeMateMe: Wasn't Moody (Benoni) from Michigan? I wonder if he was ever in a tournament with our own FSR?

FSR: <HMM> Yes, David Moody (Phony Benoni) was from Michigan. Looking at his games on this site, it appears that he mostly played in Michigan, but sometimes traveled out of state to play in the U.S. Open. Apart from law school, I have always lived in the Chicago area, and have very rarely traveled outside of Illinois, and specifically the Chicago area, for tournaments. I see that David and I both played in the 1979 U.S. Open in Chicago (the only U.S. Open I have played in), though we did not meet.

Check It Out: Fun game and pun, always nice to see Phony Benoni around in spirit.

Feb-18-23  thegoodanarchist: I couldn't help but think that Mr. Pearce wasted so much postage on these 13 questionable moves - with a war on, mind you!

Then I realized that was something that a grandparent would say (or, at least, one of mine would say).

Anyway, good pun David Moody, wherever you are.

A game from Yugoslavia, which doesn't even exist anymore!

Nor does the automobile named for that country, <The Yugo>. Rumor has it you could dismantle one with a screw driver. Or else by putting 18k miles on it.

Yugoslavia was pretty much Tito's baileywick, I guess. When Tito went, the country wasn't far behind...

HeMateMe: I think the great Mikhail Tal played a simul in one of the lounges at Midway Airport, outskirts of Chicago, in the early '80s. Any CG people play in it or know about it?

eternaloptimist: This is a great pun by <Phony>! Some people don’t like the pun but I do. Although the game isn’t a good quality game. Pearce must’ve been a really weak player to lose a correspondence game this quickly. <Phony> was good at making puns & making people laugh. Actually I wasn’t aware that he passed away last year until now. He will definitely b missed

FSR: <HeMateMe> As you know, I played Tal in a simul in Chicago in 1988. Tal vs F Rhine, 1988. I don't recall the exact location, but it was surely closer to O'Hare than to Midway.

FSR: <thegoodanarchist> Yes, by all accounts the Yugo was a piece of crap. https://www.librarypoint.org/blogs/...
