May-26-09  Cardinal Fang: This game deserves to be better known; surprised there has been no kibitzing for it yet. The final position is macabre.
Jul-22-09  backrank: Black wins simply by the knight route Ne6-g5-e4-d2. White loses its rook.
Jul-22-09  guaguanco: Even worse, black will aim his knight to e1. If white posts his rook on f1, black waits till white's pawn moves run out, then white is in zugzwang and must play Rxf1...
Jul-25-09  backrank: <guaguanco: Even worse, black will aim his knight to e1. If white posts his rook on f1, black waits till white's pawn moves run out, then white is in zugzwang and must play Rxe1...>

Nice observation of yours. If White plays b4 to prevent the journey Ne6-c5-d3-e1, Black plays Ne6-d8-c6-e5-d3-e1 and achieves the same. Daemonic and sardistic. I hope I will never lose that way :)

This game and especially its finish definitely deserves more attention. Highly interesting and instructive.

HeMateMe: when I was a kid looking through chess books and magazine I assumed the Conel was a military man.
Dec-17-23  Amarande: The main line would be:

33 Rd1 Nf4 34 Rb1 Nd3 35 Rf1 Ne1 36 e5 b5 37 a3 a5 38 b4 a4 39 e6 fxe6 40 g6 hxg6 41 Rg1 (if 41 Rxe1, mate on the move) fxg1Q+ 42 Kxg1 Nc2 43 Kf1 Nxa3 44 Ke2 Nc4!! (Much more decisive than grabbing another pawn with Nc2!) 45 Kd3 a3 46 Kc2 a2

This deserves a diagram.

Evil! Evil enough to forgive missing the much shorter mating win by 30 ... Rg4 (shades of E Cohn vs Chigorin, 1907), even.
