plang: Game 1 of their fourth round match in the World Championship tournament; Ivanchuk drew the second game to clinch the match and then went on to defeat Lautier and Anand before losing in the finals to Ponomariov. 15 Qb1 was a new move; 15 a5 had been played previously. Ivanchuk was critical of 16..Nc5?! recommending 16..c5 17 dxc..Nxc6 18 Bxd6..Rxa5 19 Nd5..Rxa1 20 Qxa1 with just a small White edge. 19..f5 would have been more active; Ye's 19..Qc7? was just a bad move giving White a tempo for his queenside attack. Although White had a difficult position it is hard to understand his decision to commit hari kari at the end.
