Domdaniel: A beautiful finish from Garcia: everything works after 21.e5! and the repeated Queen offers on g4 - which can't be accepted because ...fxg4 would open the f-file to white's rook with mate threats on f8 - are exquisite.
Sep-25-08  dzechiel: <Domdaniel: A beautiful finish from Garcia> I totally agree! Startling play in the middle and endgame. (I know that a game is good when I catch myself saying, "Whoa!", as I play through the moves!)

  fredthebear: 28.Rxf7! seems to work.

Messiah: What a horrible pun. Nice game, tho!

Dec-27-21  Brenin: <fredthebear>: Yes, 28 e6, followed Qxd4, also wins.

An Englishman: Good Evening: "Boca" is Spanish for "Mouth," which explains today's title. After 4.Nc3, the game transposes into what is sometimes called the Smyslov Variation (1.c4,e5; 2.Nc3,d6) but a very placid line thanks to 3.e3. Impressive how White whipped such a strong attack so quickly. Normally, the Smyslov is a sound defense that can let Black take the fight to the opponent.

Breunor: Very nice attack here, it seemed like white would end up losing material but there were too many key threats. Beautiful!

HeMateMe: I saw the name Garcia and thought we might have a Greatful Dead pun:

<Wake of the Flood> Rain--Garcia

exciting game!

Dec-27-21  SkySports: To be honest, I don't remember submitting this game and pun... Nice one though.

Teyss: Great game. Not sure if 18...b5 was a good idea but at least Black should have been consistent and with the c4 P gone played 20...Bxc3 21.bxc3 Nxd5 to remove some tension from the centre. It was downhill after 21.e5.
Superb how White ignores Black's "threats" on moves 26 (take my R) and 30 to 32 (take my Q).

Too bad about the pun, we could have extended the Christmas theme. Unless it refers to taking the sacramental bread?

Honza Cervenka: 28.Qf3 (with double threat to win the Queen by discovered attack after 29.Nf6+ and 29.Qxf7+) 28...Nc5 (the only move covering both threats) 29.Rc1 (with threat Rxc5 again followed by discovered attack against the black Queen) would have won more prosaically, as black has nothing better than to give up the Knight playing 29...Qd7 with utterly hopeless position.
Dec-27-21  Ironmanth: Nice maneuvering! A fight by two aging warriors. Impressive. Y'all have a great week; stay safe out there!
Dec-27-21  Cheapo by the Dozen: Key point: Black does have a defensive line in which all the pieces get exchanged off, along with White's center pawns -- but then his king can't stop White's b-pawn in time.
Dec-27-21  Carrubo: <messiah> oh, I love neo-romantic songs too.
