Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-20-06  WarmasterKron: One of the more unusual stalemates in the database - Black has a material force of 12 but still has no legal move.
Dec-20-06  dbquintillion: What was the reason for playing 17. ... b6 I wonder?
Dec-20-06  Prokofiev fan: White must have kicked himself after that last move.
Nov-06-09  WhiteRook48: 51 Bf8 is just natural, however 51 Bd6 or 51 Bf6 is better
Jun-12-15  dumbgai: ANY legal move other than 51. Bf8 is better. It is the worst possible move in the position, in that it is the only legal move that doesn't win (except possibly 51. Ne4?? which loses two pieces - but even then white may be winning).

The easiest win is 51. Bxe6 followed by Bxd5.

May-31-24  jith1207: this is a Pun, or Is It?

:)) can't resist, sorry...

great title, and fitting for the game ending!!

May-31-24  goodevans: White should have smelt a rat when Black just threw away his B with <49...Bd7?!>. What a swindle!

Black's early mishandling of his DSB was the source of his woeful position. First <13...Ba7?> cost a pawn but worse was <17...Bb6??> and after <18.a5 Bc7 19.b6 Bb8> he was effectively playing a R down for the next 20 moves.

White then made it harder on himself by letting Black lock the K-side. He should have got <h5> in before Black did. But he found a way through eventually and then victory was inevitable, or at least it should have been.

FSR: A pin, but not a safety pin. Weird that White fell into the stalemate trap at the end. Presumably he was in gross time pressure.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Fell into a stalemate trap once when very young, in a very unimportant tournament. Over the decades, avoided statemate traps in several important tournaments.

Well, well--once upon a time, actually was capable of learning something.

FSR: Chafiq El Idrissi holds the FIDE title of Candidate Master, making him better than the likes of me. But his score on chessgames is only +0 =4 -8. Had he avoided 51.Bf8?? this would have been his only win in the database.
Jun-01-24  SeanAzarin: I'm reminded of the ending to this one:

I A Horowitz vs M Pavey, 1951

Jun-01-24  TheBish: The easiest win was 51. Bd6 Rxd7 52. Bf8+ Rg7 53. Nxe6, etc.
