In endgames where both players have weaknesses, piece activity is of great importance and Unzicker played well to set his great opponent--no slouch in that phase--many problems.

The final phase illustrates the superiority of a 2-0 majority and an active rook over that of 3-1, the more so since White's kingside pawns never got off the ground.
