Aug-27-14  optimal play: 15.Nd5 appears to be a TN by Browne

Not sure it's an improvement on Be2 or Kh1

Anyway, a draw against the reigning world champion is never a bad result, although these two seem to have only ever played drawn games

This game is from the 19th Chess Olympiad (Siegen 1970) played on board 1 in game 1 from group 1 between Australia & the USSR on 5th September

The USSR won the round 3-1 and went on to finish 1st in the Olympiad

perfidious: <optimal play> Matters might have gone differently in their meetings if: Spassky had ever had White, or: if Browne pushed a bit harder in the two quickies.
Aug-27-14  optimal play: <perfidious> yeah, it’s funny how Browne always drew white!

This photo of them is purportedly from this Olympiad...

although the board doesn’t appear to actually be this game.

Dec-29-21  jerseybob: <optimal play...This photo of them is purportedly from this Olympiad...http://marspolaris.tripod.com/siteb... although the board doesn’t appear to actually be this game.> My guess is the post-mortem from San Juan '69.
