Nov-03-05  lopium: By playing the 34th move, I think white hoped for a draw.
Nov-29-05  aw1988: Is it really that hopeless?
Apr-28-07  M.D. Wilson: Yep. The white pawns will "fall like ripe apples", as Alekhine would say. Just a matter of time and technique.
Apr-06-15  A.T PhoneHome: This one was literally a game of two halves! White ends up with not much to do.

perfidious: The setup employed by Spassky in this game was already known to be dubious when White responds 4.d4, producing a Reverse Gruenfeld, as was seen in Korchnoi vs A Pomar-Salamanca, 1962.

The positional idea of ....Bxc4 and ....Ba5 to leave bad bishop vs good knight as a long-term threat is also seen with colours reversed.

Aug-09-17  zydeco: Patient play by Spassky. I definitely would have been gunning for ...f5 around move 23. Spassky figures out that he has a trump in the f4 square. Savon doesn't put up much resistance.

RookFile: After 4. d4 it's possible Spassky might have opted for 4....e6 and a likely transposition to a Tarrasch Defense, which he was an expert at.
Aug-09-17  tonsillolith: 42...d3! is key.
