Honza Cervenka: 10.Rd1 was a blunder. 10.Bc4 seems to be necessary.

In final position the game could continue with 21...Nxe3 22.Qc1 Bxc4 23.Qxe3 Nd5 24.Qe4 Bxb5 etc.

Benzol: This game was played by Cecil Purdy's son John Purdy in the World Junior Championship.
Jul-05-09  Knight13: <Honza Cervenka: 10.Rd1 was a blunder.> Agreed. White thought that black had to take on e3 sometime (which favors White) so he played it but miscalculated.

GrahamClayton: Spassky's pawn thrust 10...d3 wins a piece. Purdy resigns, rather than lose another piece after 21...♘f6 22. axb4 ♗xc4.
Oct-04-22  jerseybob: This almost looks like 1.f4 was a fingerfehler, that he accidently touched the f-pawn and had to move it. White seems clueless as to how to play the Bird, which is not a bad opening if played correctly.
Oct-04-22  Chessius the Messius: 10. Bc4 is not sufficient, 10... Nc7 11. c3 a6 12. cxd4 cxd4

Better is:

10. Bb5 Ncb4 11. c3 dxc3 12. dxc3 a6 13. Bc4 b5 14. Bxd5 Qxd5 15. c4 Qc6 16. Bxg7 Kxg7 17. Qe2
