Honza Cervenka: Immediate 19.Rc6 with intention 19...Qb7 20.Qd2! would have preserved solid advantage of white. Playing 23.Ne5 white apparently missed or underestimated 23...Qb6! It was better to play 23.Qe4 or 23.Rc4. Instead of 26.Bxd5 a lesser evil would have been 26.Qxf8+ Bxf8 27.Bxd5 but Smyslov missed powerful 27...Bd4! with huge advantage and gave white another chance to get a defensible position with just a tiny material advantage of black. 30.Re8 was a decisive mistake. After 30.Rd8! black cannot play 30...Qa5 for perpetual check, and after 30...Qc6 31.Be3 a5 32.Rd2 white is able to hold defense. In the game 30...Qa5 is a double threat (Qxg5 and Qe1#) which can be avoided only with insufficient 31.h4, which allows black to win a critical Pawn with continuing attack leading to quick collapse of white position. Of course, 38.Rxa5 is not an option for 38...Qc1+ and the Rook will be forked with next check (39.Kh2 Qc7+ or 39.Kf2 Qd2+).
