Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-26-10  sevenseaman: 20. Bxf5 and 22.Nxb5 are good calculation but Black's 21.Rd7 contributes nothing to his cause. Black perhaps did not see White N moving out imaginatively to give his Q a direct shot for a checkmate in this position..

A good instructive configuration of attacking pieces.

Dec-15-12  Gambit All: Pillsbury's moves 20-22 are spectacular! Give poor Trenchard a break. Pillsbury discovered the attacking prospects of the QGD. Plus this tournament was over 30 games long. Trenchard was probably focused on breaking the Knight bind by redeploying his own ♘ to e7, c8, and then swapping. He never saw the combination.
Dec-15-12  morfishine: 19...Qc7 was a horrendous Blooper

Much better was simply 19...Rd7 establishing communication with the Queen; and now Black's King rook is free to move

Dec-16-12  Gambit All: I agree Qc7 was awful. Again I think Trenchard was fixated on exchanging the Knights and wanted e7 cleared for his own Knight's redeployment. He never saw the combination coming.

NM JRousselle: We have an expression here in New Orleans: don't allow the opponent to have a protected passed knight. White's knight on d6 qualifies as a protected passed knight.
