  offramp: Spassky could have tried the shot 20.♕g4 ♘f6 ( not 20...g6 21.♗xg6 fxg6 22.♕xe6+ ♔f8 23.♖h3 ) 21.♕xg7 ♔e7 22.♗g6 ♖hf8 23.♖f5 exf5 24.♖e1+ ♔d6 25.♕xf6+ ♔c5 26.♕xf5+ ♔b6 27.♗xh7.
Sep-28-05  MoonlitKnight: Nice line, offramp. I'm guessing Spassky overlooked Bg6.

(By the way: Mayhem rocks! :-) )

Apr-05-08  Knight13: After Spassky dropped the g5 pawn he became super aggressive to force trades into a drawn ending. Very clever.
Mar-01-09  Maynard5: White's decision to go into the endgame with 23. Qc6 is surprising, since Black has an extra pawn. However, it was Petrosian rather than Spassky who offered the draw at this juncture. Black's pawns are set up in such a way that it would take an inordinate amount to time to establish connected, passed pawns on the kingside. Still, it might have been worth playing out the endgame.
Aug-11-09  WhiteRook48: 15 Nxc6?!?!?!
Nov-15-21  Justin796: Knight takes c6!
