Nov-10-05  Dres1: What happens on 31 Nxb6?
Nov-10-05  delterp: 31...♖f1+! 32 ♖x♖ e1=♕+! then 33 ♖x♕ allows 33...♖x♖# or black is simply up a queen for a rook.
Jan-23-07  notyetagm: <delterp: 31 ... Rf1+! 32 RxR e1=Q+! then 33 RxQ allows 33 ... RxR# or black is simply up a queen for a rook.>

Very nice tactic. Black uses the <WEAK BACK RANK> (Black g4-knight covering the f2- and h2-flight squares) to promote his passed e2-pawn by using the <RELOADER> theme to <RELOAD> on e1 with mate.

31 ♘x♘b6?? ♖f1+! 32 ♖x♖f1 <blockaders do not defend> e1=♕+! 33 ♖x♕e1?? ♖x♖e1# <reloading on e1 with mate>

whiteshark: This game was played during the German team championship (Bundesliga) 1992-1993 on the 24th Oct 1992.
Apr-24-21  Retireborn: In his book Nunn relates that he didn't anticipate 30...Nb6; he was intending 30...Rf1+ 31.Rxf1 e1Q, but noticed that 32.Rxd7! would be good for White. " suddenly occurred to me that a preliminary knight sacrifice validates the whole idea."

Nunn also writes that the game was played in Dresden during February (of 1993); one wonders if his memory was at fault there.
