fredthebear: Another interesting game resulting from opposite sides castling. White has pressure on the b7-pawn, while Black weighs down g2. Stockfish gives a slight edge to White after both sides have castled, but prefers the defensive moves 18.h3 and 19.Qf2 instead of extending the queenside pawn storm.

It's Black with the better game after 20...Qxc7, meaning the b-pawn surge and exchange did not meet White's needs in the position. White missed another crucial defensive move when 24.Ne3 was necessary. At that point, Black simply gets too many killer pieces in on the king hunt.

This is game 93 in Nimzowitsch's book "Chess Praxis." The 21st Century edition edited by Ken Artz is updated to algebraic notation. It contains 109 games involving Nimzowitsch and an additional fifteen "modern" games annotated by SM John Hall from 1950-1992.

FTB's game commentary was NOT based upon AN's book whatsoever. FTB sees no other member comments on this page as of this post.

fredthebear: 20...Kb8 looks simple, but it's an important defensive choice for Black. FTB is curious about the author's comments.
