An Englishman: Good Evening: Ladies and gentlemen, a moment of awe-struct awe for the creator of today's game title.

Wondering if perhaps Black should have avoided ...c7-c5 because of the huge hole left at d5, but perhaps the game influences my judgment too much. 13...Bf6, perhaps?

Some players might hazard 35...Rbd5; 36.Rd5,Rd5; 37.ed5,Qd5 and hope to hang on with Bishop and Pawn v. Rook, but 38.Qc8 might cause too much trouble.

Feb-02-22  Brenin: A lovely pun, indeed! Like <An Englishman>, on playing through the game I wondered whether Black might have given up a R for that powerful N on d5. However, after 35 ... Rbxd5 36 Rxd5 Rxd5 37 exd5 Qxd5 38 Qc8 and 39 Rf2 Black is tied down, and his a-, c- and e-pawns will soon fall.

igiene: Sincerely I don't understand the pun; please can someone explain it to me?
Feb-02-22  goodevans: Is there a conspiracy of sarcasm regarding the quality of today's pun?

  MissScarlett: < Sincerely I don't understand the pun>

There's always one. Yesterday the only person to get the pun was Anatoly Karpov.

igiene: no sarcasm, at least as far as I'm concerned, I just don't understand what it refers to

perfidious: <igiene>, there is a popular song whose title runs:

<If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Want To Be Right)>

MissScarlett: Shouldn't that be Denker vs Euwe, 1946?
Feb-02-22  Brenin: <iglene>: "If loving you is wrong I don't want to be right" is a song by Luther Ingram. The prefix "Ljubo " appearing twice in White's name means "love". Other connections: "Wong" and "wrong", "White" and "right". Maybe there's even more that I have missed.
Feb-02-22  spingo: Our world is different: a pun every day for Wong is tedious.

MissScarlett: Here's a practically complete record of <GOTD>s since 2004 - almost 18 years' worth, so over 6500 puns: Game Collection: Game of the Day & Puzzle of the Day Collections

  MissScarlett: User: thegoldenband is fuming.
Feb-02-22  thegoldenband: ...why would I be fuming? I'm in Ljub. (But not Ljubojevic.)

MissScarlett: Well, I might be mistaken, but the only import I could read into <igiene>’s words was the belief that I was responsible for the pun.
Feb-02-22  thegoldenband: Oh, I thought he meant the game collection! But of course that's the work of User: Phony Benoni -- so you're probably correct -- does that mean I should start fuming? I don't even have a fume hood.

MissScarlett: I think it's time I took a back seat on the pun front.

Phony Benoni: Oh, I' not fuming. Assembling these collections is a labor of love, and very useful for me.

For instance, I never write the wrong year on checks any more.
