Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-11-04  Reisswolf: How INCREDIBLY beautiful!

Black can't take 20...Bxb7 because of 21. Ne6! And he can't not take because of 21. Bxa6.

Feb-11-04  technical draw: I must agree Reisswolf. 19.Nf4 is a hard move to see, plus 20.Bb7!! is just great.
Jul-10-04  Helloween: The finish is 20...Nc5 21.Bxc8 Qxc8 22.b4 e5 23.Nd5 f5 24.bxc5 bxc5 25.Rc4 with a decisive advantage or 20...Bxb7 21.Ne6 Qg8 22.Rd8 Qxd8 23.Nxd8 Bd5 24.Nc6 Bxc6 25.Rxc6 with a won exchange-up ending.
Mar-25-07  aazqua: This is what happens when someone good plays someone bad. The bad person loses.
Apr-17-07  Whitehat1963: Krystall Knight! This would make an excellent puzzle.

  FSR: 12...f6? Krystallized White's advantage.

fearlessone: 20. Bb7!! to get rid of bishop protection on e6. The idea of Rxc8? Ne6 covering g7 square and idea to fork Rd8+ on king and queen may look good for second but is met by Qxe6! as queen now covers e6 square on c8
Jan-03-21  siggemannen: Bb7 made things clear for black, crystal clear

Aug-30-22  Saniyat24: It is Krystall clear that Larry is happy...!
Aug-30-22  CaliWest: Kristall Knight 😳 Clever but may be offensive, I'm sure. Great game! I still didn't understand the queen sac until I played through to the end.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Black never had the time to play ...e7-e5, with the result that he got stuck with a terrible weakness on e6. Fine example of the power of the initiative.
Aug-30-22  newzild: Agree that Kristall Knight would have been a great pun.

A great miniature with an awesome shot at the end.

Teyss: <FSR: 12...f6? Krystallized White's advantage.> Indeed. The purpose was probably to avoid Ne5, but so what?

Black was certainly expecting 17.Nxd8 Rxd1+ 18.Rxd1 Rxd8 19.Ne3 or Nc3 (White cannot keep the N here) Rxd1+ 20.Nxd1 Bxg2 21.Kxg2 with equality. 17.Rac1! 19.Nf4! 20.Bb7!! What a game.

<CaliWest: Kristall Knight 😳 Clever but may be offensive> I agree. A bit too clever because the historical reference has no link to the game or the players. If it had, it would clearly be offensive.

perfidious: <aazqua: This is what happens when someone good plays someone bad. The bad person loses.>

By all accounts, Krystall was quite competent as a player, and certainly not a bad person.

offramp: Larry Christiansen reminds me of Nicolas Rossolimo.
They both came up with total artistry.
The last move 20. Bb7 is a surprise, for me. Very pretty.
