fredthebear: Against the Slav/Baltic defense, Koltanowski liked this queenside approach to activate White's light-squared bishop rather than the Colle proper with 4.Bd3 (which is still playable giving White a strong pawn center if Black initiates the exchange of bishops but without "Greek Gift" attacking possibilities). In this simultaneous exhibition game during World War II, Kolty delivers a Boden's Mate miniature w/the criss-crossing bishops. He uses superior development to gain time on the opposing queen, uses his battery to nab the f-pawn with check to displace the opposing king, and rapidly gets all his pieces into play for the conclusion. Black is left with three minor pieces on the back rank and cornered rooks.

Phony Benoni: Black wa ts to trade queens in the worst way, and succeeds admirably.
