Jul-08-13 | | whiteshark: I love Mondays! 25.Qf7+ Kh8 26.Qf8+ Bxf8 27.Rxf8#
btw, where's <lost in space> anyway? |
Jul-08-13 | | Jimmy W: Mark the f7 square hot. 25. Qf7+ Kh8 26. Qf8+ Bxf8 27. Rxf8#. |
Jul-08-13 | | TheaN: Back from long gone and a time ahead of me of six months 9 to 17, decided to pick up the morning puzzle routine again. Monday 8 July 2013
Think I haven't solved a monday in a year or two but CG continues to find effective (albeit very easy) queen sacs to seal the deal. Here, white closes with: <25.Qf7+ Kh8 26.Qf8+ Bxf8 27.Rxf8#> where the inbetween move Qf7 is necessary to lure the king into the corner. |
Jul-08-13 | | Nullifidian: Simple back rank mate.
25. ♕f7+ ♔h8 26. ♕f8+ ♗xf8 27. ♖xf8# |
Jul-08-13 | | mistreaver: Monday. White to play .25. VEry Easy?
The corridor mate in it's purest ofrm:
25 Qf7+ Kh8
26 Qf8+ Bxf8
27 Rxf8 mate |

 | | Oxspawn: This was a whole cup POTD. Spent time looking at Qa8. Then puzzing over why neither Qf7 or Qf8 worked. The key lies in realising that you need, not one of these moves but both of them; one to shift the king, the other to defrock the bishop. 25. Qf7+ Kh8
26. Qf8+ Bxf8
27. Rf8++
Very nice for a Monday… |
Jul-08-13 | | morfishine: 25.Qf7+ Kh8 26.Qf8+ Bxf8 27.Rxf8# |
Jul-08-13 | | zb2cr: Simple. 25. Qf7+, Kh8; 26. Qf8+, Bxf8; 27. Rxf8#. All forced on Black's part, so easy to see, as appropriate for a Monday. |
Jul-08-13
 | | gawain: Cute. Two steps to a back rank mate. Black never saw it coming. |
Jul-08-13 | | Abdel Irada: The game ceases to be a contest after 18. ...Qe7?
Black could have played 18. ...e5, 18. ...d5, or even 18. ...Bh4. The text is tantamount to surrender. Maybe the board should have come imprinted with "Don't panic!" in large friendly letters. ∞ |
Jul-08-13 | | DcGentle: Well, not only in my opinion Black can easily take the gambit pawn playing against the King's Gambit. Some years ago I invented a new method, applying the <Cunningham Gambit> (<3... Be7>). There is a sample game you can find here (optimal play chessforum). |

Jul-08-13 | | kevin86: There is a mate on the back row-but first the king must be pushed aside-Qf7+ and mate in two. Thank God for Mondays-at least here. |
Jul-08-13
 | | LIFE Master AJ: Obviously 25.Qf7+ and then 26.Qf8+, and a back-rank mate next move. |
Jul-08-13
 | | LIFE Master AJ: Of course 18...Qe7?? is a horrible blunder ... |
Jul-08-13 | | Mojodomo: Congrats on the book launch, Once! |
Jul-08-13 | | rinkol: In this opening 2... d6 is passive unless immediately followed up by ...exf4 transposing to the Fischer Defense. |

Jul-08-13
 | | Peligroso Patzer: <kevin86: *** Thank God for Mondays-at least here.> Only at CG.com does the usual hebdomadal exultation ("TGIF") transform to this version. Actually (but actually: "NOT!"), I thought this one pretty hard for a Monday; no Queen sac until the <second> move from the given position. ;-) |
Jul-08-13 | | The Last Straw: 25.♕f7+ ♔h8 26.♕f8+ ♗xf8 27.♖xf8#. |
Jul-08-13 | | Alex56171: Very easy indeed: 25.Qf7+ Kh8 26.Qf8+ Bxf8 27.Rxf8# |
Jul-08-13 | | morfishine: Before one criticize Black's play, some consideration should be given to the fact this was the under-12 girls division of this tournament |
Jul-08-13 | | Patriot: If you've ever gone through "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" you will immediately recognize this pattern. Good stuff! |
Jul-08-13 | | Shamot: Welcome back <Once>! I was wondering where have you been! Would love to read your novel. Please keep contributing to this forum with your once-of-a-kind kibitzing. :) |
