Oct-03-03  patzer2: Instead of 12. ..Kh7, black should play 12. ..Nc6. Fritz 8 analyzes a black advantage after 12. ..Nc6 13. Kh1 Rf8 14. Qe1 Bd7 15. Rd1 Bd6 16. bxf6 Rxf6 17. Rxf6 Qxf6 18. Nxe4 Qf4 19. Nxd6 Qxd6 20. c3 Re8 21. Qf2 Ne5 (-2.28 & 13/47 depth 729kNs).
Oct-03-03  kevin86: as a young kid,I used to call this opening the "alligator" gambit. It had gone out of style-as has other gambits. It's good to see that Mr.Wall road tested it with success.
Oct-03-03  clifton: Black's best chance against the King's Gambit Accepted is the Fischer Defence 3... d6.
Mar-01-05  soberknight: <kevin86> You'll probably never find this post, but if you do, I can't help a light chuckle. The real name is the Allgaier Gambit, which sounds like "alligator gambit".
Mar-01-05  PatientSpider: It is interesting to see how well coordinated the white pieces are. For instance if;

I) 16.-♘xf6 17.♕g6+ ♔h8 18.♕xh6# is mate since ♘f6 is pinned.

II) 16.-♖xf6 17.♕g6+ ♔h8 (17.-♔f8 18.♕g8#) 18.♕xh6#

  al wazir: <soberknight: The real name is the Allgaier Gambit> I think that was his point.
Sep-30-06  Dr. Funkenstein: Why does black play 8. ...dxe4 This opens a diagonal to his king and allows the white bishop to immediately jump into the game.

  Sneaky: Bill Wall had such a great thing going with his "500 Miniatures" series that would be packed with very short brilliancies in popular opening systems. Alas, in the age of chess databases, such books must no longer be the smash sellers they were in bygone days.
Sep-30-06  kevin86: Wall ball at its finest.<soberknight> yes,I knew the name of the opening.

It has gone out of style---for a beginner,it is a tough snakepit to escape from. With best play,however,it can be refuted---maybe that's why it isn't played anymore.
