Apr-28-04  ToTheDeath: This game is a duplicate of

Kasparov vs Huebner, 1992

But this one has the correct score I believe.

I still don't see why Kasparov resigned. After 48... Rxa6 49. Rxa6 Rxa6 50. Rc7 black is tied to the defense of the g7 pawns. How does he win?

Mar-27-05  Badmojo: What's Black's tactic that's gonna blow my mind?
Mar-27-05  aw1988: Sometimes a game is not won solely by tactics, but by strategy as well.
Mar-27-05  Badmojo: I had more of a look at it with the computer.

after Rxa6, Rxa6, Rc7, Black's free piece, his Rook, has no way to make progress.

even if it wants to go down to a1 or a2, it will do little down there, because White's King can defend e3 and h3.

meanwhile, if white can get Rf7 in there, he'll be sitting pretty.

Rf7, Qg8 (only move), Re7 (threatening Re8, winning the Queen), and Black had better hope he can get his rook back to the 8th rank in time.

I don't know why this is 0-1, unless Black has something better on move 48 than Rxa6.

Sep-08-05  WMD: This was a blitz game, so Garry obviously lost on time.

Dec-30-09  blueserge: Kasparov didn't resign, he overstepped the time limit after move 48. The position is equal as Black can take the a6 pawn.
