Honza Cervenka: It was a blitz game but very nice one. With classic time control Kasparov probably wouldn't have missed possibility to play 15.d5! , but Larsen did not escape his fate. Kasparov's finish was lovely and quite instructive. After 24...fxg6 white gives a mate: 25.Nf6++ Kh8 26.Nf7# or 25.Nf4+ (25.Ne7++) Kh8 26.Nxg6#.

  Benzol: 24...hxg5 25.♘f6+ ♔h8 26.♕h7# is the unattractive alternative.
Nov-26-06  ToTheKings: I noticed Garry missed the simpler Nf6+ after seeing this game in Ray Keene's book Samurai Chess.

In the line:

1. Nf6+ (Kh8 Nxf7#) gxf6
2. Qxg6+ (Kh8 Nxf7# or Qh7#)
3. Bg7 Bxf7+
4. Kh8 Qh7# or Kf8 Nh7#

Nov-26-06  aazqua: A pretty obvious shot. I'm a little surprised even for a blitz game.
Apr-12-10  atakantmac: Qxg6 is great move
Feb-02-14  petar02: larsen is my favorite chess player and i am kind of sad that he is not imortall only he knew modern theory and had a younger mind magnus would be sorry:( R.I.P chess genius
