Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-03-07  Jim Bartle: Looks like Kasparov let a win slip away here...
Apr-04-09  Everett: Where?
Jun-30-10  WhiteRook48: 20 Qxh7+ looks deadly but white has no real follow up
Oct-19-11  AnalyzeThis: Kasparov knew what he was doing. In this match situation, a draw was almost as good as a win.
Apr-01-12  zanzibar: This game appears in Watson's MtCO v2 QGD. He gives 22 Qe4?, and suggests instead 22 Bxd4 Nxd4 23 Rg5! which allows White's attack to penetrate.

The engine I run says Kasparov's blunder cost him 1.5 pawns, and gave Black enough play for a draw.

Jun-06-15  mandor: It is not good 11. e4!? ... followed by f5 and g6, without check fear?!
Jun-06-15  mandor: (11. ... e4) with the idea to lock both bishops trying to create f5-g6 structure
Jul-18-20  offramp: <Very Choriginal>.
Sep-09-22  offramp: As early as move 9 there was a middlegame ♗♗ v ♘♘.

Those 4 minor pieces stayed on the board until 23.Bxd4.

Kasparov had a big attack. <<zanzibar: This game appears in Watson's MtCO v2 QGD>> I believe the book referred to is Mastering the Chess Openings by John Watson.

I am surprised that Kasparov drew this game.

Sep-10-22  Chessius the Messius: -5. Bg5 +0.8
-10. Bc1 +0.6
-13... Qa3 +0.5
-15. Bg2 +1.6
-16... Qxa2 +1.1
-18... Rae3 +2.4
-21. Bg5 +5.00
-22. Bxd4 +6 (22. Qe4=) Qxd4 23. Rg5 Qf6 24. Bc4+ Ke8 25. Rxg7 c6 26. Qh5+ Ke8 27. Qg4 b5 28. Rd1+ Kc7 29. Qg3+ Qf4 30. Rxe7+ and White ends a piece up.
Sep-10-22  Chessius the Messius: Corr: -18... Rae8 +2.4
Sep-10-22  Chessius the Messius: Probably Kasparov did not want to crush Smyslov completely. Pretty sure he had seen the winning variation. Not that hard for a guy like Kaspy, I assume.
