Jul-09-05 | | fgh: 25. Rc6! is a nice move! |
|
Jul-10-05 | | Boomie: 25. ♖c6 is a cool move but it only works if black takes it. After 25...♘c7 or ♖f8, white must move the rook and nothing has been accomplished. But nothing has been lost either and there is the chance that black will blunder by taking so why not give it a try. |

Nov-10-06 | | Joshka: Amazing that Larsen thought for 20 minutes on this move, and it left him with 5 minutes to play the remaining moves!! |

 | | Clement Fraud: I might be making a fool of myself here (very likely), but couldn't black have continued with 39... Kh6 (?) If 39... Kh6, white must surely carry out his threat of 40.b7 : Play might then continue 40... Qxb7 41.Qxf5 Qxc7... after which I cannot see how white has the advantage? |

 | | keypusher: <clement> no, how could you be making a fool of yourself using your own brain? Your moves look sensible to me. But after 39....Kh6 40.Qc6! the engine confirms that White wins easily. |

May-15-18 | | ChessHigherCat: Hi <Clement>, in case you actually want to know the winning line instead of being told you're wrong: 1) +12.88 40.Qc6 Qe8 41.Qxe8 Nxe8 42.b7 Nd6 43.b8=Q |

Many thanks for your analyses... 40.Qc6 was a fine move that I'd missed. |

 | | keypusher: <ChessHigherCat: Hi <Clement>, in case you actually want to know the winning line instead of being told you're wrong:> Oh, CHC, how noble of you to be angry on Clement's behalf, when he wasn't upset himself. Some people might be slightly insulted by the implication that they need to be told the winning variations after 40.Qc6, since once you see the move the followup is obvious. But Clement isn't angry with you either. He's a nice guy. |

Kh6, white must surely carry out his threat of 40.b7 : Play might then continue 40... Feb-13-20 | | onigorom: So how do you continue after 39...Bd7? to prevent Qc6?
40. Bd5 doesn t help |
|
Feb-13-20 | | Retireborn: <onigorom> 39...Bd7 40.Qa5 and then 41.Ba6 looks a fairly straightforward win. |

Indeed, 15... Na6 seems needlessly weak, and 15... Nxa4 looks natural and strong. If this observation is true, then it forces a complete rethink on all the earlier analysis (which is fixated around white's Rook sacrifice on move 25). Maybe Bent Larsen was under a type of spell (preventing him from seeing the obvious NxRP); and perhaps this variation of the Old Indian Defense is sound after all?? |

A few of Kasparovs continuations, especially back then, were speculative. Some were outright bad, like against Agdestein (which should have resulted in a loss). |
