Apr-02-05  Pawsome: So how does black win after Kxc3?

  tpstar: 51. Kxf3 Rc3+ 52. Kg2 (52. Ke4/Kf4 Rc4+ & 53 ... Rxa4) Kf5 53. Kh3 (53. a5 Kg4 54. Bf2 Rc2) Rc6 54. a5 Rh6+ 55. Kg2 Kg4 followed by 56 ... Rc6 & 57 ... Rc2+ breaking down defense on g3, then the Pa6 is decisive. See if you concur with this line.

Now why not 28 ... Rxe3 grabbing the Bishop? ChessBase 8.0 confirms this gamescore (28 ... Rc4 29. Rd1 hg), but I wouldn't expect Kasparov to decline a free piece.

Apr-25-05  Pawsome: <tpstar>You've nailed it. Thanks. After your suggestion <51. Kxf3 Rc3+ 52. Kg2 (52. Ke4/Kf4 Rc4+ & 53 ... Rxa4) Kf5 53. Kh3 (53. a5 Kg4 54. Bf2 Rc2) Rc6 54. a5 Rh6+ 55. Kg2 Kg4> I think things might unfold like this 56. Be3 Rc6 57. Bf4 Rc2+ 58,Kf1 Kf3 59.Ke1 Rc5 60. Kd1 Ra5 61.Kc2 Rb5 62. Kc3 a5 63.Kc4 Rb1 64.Bd6 a4 65. Kc3 Rb6 66.Bb4 Kg3 67.Kc4 Kf3 68. Kc5 Rb7 69. Kc4 Ke4 67.Ba3 Rb1 68.Bb4 Rb2 69. Ba3 Rb3 70. Bc1 Kf5 and wins. Instructive and not easy, for me at least. As for 28 ...Re3 29. Re3 is forced then Ne3 30. gh Kg7 31.Kc3 Nf1 32. Kb4 Ne2 33. c5 whereupon black plays Nd4 - c6 and it seems to be curtains for white.
Feb-16-06  goragoragora: Suspicious. The 'Fall Guy'
memorial?
Jul-14-15  tivrfoa: please explain why 49. ... Kg6???

and 50. Ke4 is a real blunder ...

I don't know how white proceeds after 50. Ke3.

Feb-04-21  MrJafari: @tivrfoa: I think like you!
Feb-04-21  fabelhaft: Difficult to imagine that the given moves are the right ones, I’d guess 49. ... Kg4 was played and that white resigned immediately after that.
Feb-10-21  alshatranji: Perhaps White lost on time?

perfidious: chess365.com gives the same nonsensical continuation 49....Kg6, when 49....Kg4 seems more to the point, winning clearly enough.
