Honza Cervenka: Wild and maybe for white a bit risky tactical melee ended in interesting materially imbalanced ending, where Karpov's Rooks dominated over Timman's R+B with 1-2 extra Pawn(s).
Feb-12-13  nelech: It seems to me that 17 f3 (?) is not a good move . After 17 ... Rd8 , Karpov is in trouble : For instance 18 Qe2 Qç5+ 19 Kh1 Ng3+ and wins
Feb-12-13  RookFile: What should have have played instead of 17. f3. Black is threatening to play f3 himself.
Feb-13-13  nelech: So White's position was not good
Oct-12-13  wordfunph: from BCM 1993 December..

"As Timman walked away from the game, consoled by his second Yasser Seirawan, he seemed close to tears."

- GM Ian Rogers

Feb-27-14  ralph46: <nelech> on 17 Rd8 white plays 18Qc7 and black has to exchange queens so 18 Qxc7 19 Nxc7 and if 19 ..Rd7 20 Re1 and black is lost you do not have to be a GM to see it
May-07-14  Roark: The difference in opening preparation resources of Karpov's team vs. Timman's team is my opinion of the result of this game.
