Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-24-10  Everett: For the pawn white has very strong pressure by move 18. Black has yet to get two q-side pieces in the game and Karpov takes advantage of this.

The database seems to indicate that Black hasn't gone in for this line too much either before or since.

Jun-25-25  Gus Leffers: Ljubojevic gets a very bad position out of the opening. Here's what Karpov had to say:

8...b5: "Theory regards this move with suspicion, considering it to be premature and risky. However, those who have attentively studied the games of Ljubojević will clearly have noted that at the very first opportunity he aims at active counter-play on the queen's flank."

12...b4: "I confess, I did not imagine that Black, having lost his sense of danger, would go in for the win of a pawn with both flanks undeveloped. Essential was 12...Nc6."

AK considered that 14.Kh1 was what Black overlooked (also judging by his time usage).
