Aug-20-16  offramp: Game 9 played on Friday, 4th October 1974. The score before this game was played was 5-3 to Karpov.

Karpov could now have played 34...Nc5 and the game might have ended a little earlier by repetition. But he didn't, he played 34...Nb4.

This threatens 35...Nc2. If White had guarded against that by playing 35.Rc3, then 35...e3!

...would have given White a few (small) problems.

Kortschnoi chode the right rook move, Rc1, and the game soon ended in a different repetition.

Kortschnoi now took a postponement and game 10 was played on Wed 9th October.
