Aug-12-04  fred lennox: An excellent rook ending by Tarrasch. Possibly, black wasted 3 moves 28-30 thoughtlessly ridding his bad bishop as white's king develops.
Aug-13-04  Calli: Pretty interesting game. Tarrasch gradually builds up in the endgame as Janowsky makes some minor errors. Even then Tarrasch pointed out a draw:

78...Ra4? Tarrasch gives a draw here 78...Ra1! 79.Rxb2 Kxb2 80.f6 Rf1 81.g5 Kc3 82.Ke4 Kc4 83.Ke5 Kc5 84.Ke6 Re1+ 85.Kd7 Rf1 86.Ke7 Re1+ 87.Kf7 Kd6 88.g6 Rg1 89.g7 Ke5 Basically, Black is a move ahead of the game in this variation.

Jan-24-05  Jack Rabbit: <Rook v. Two Connected Pawns> from <79 -- Kxb2>

Accoring to Fine, in the absence of Kings, the Pawns win if they are on the sixth rank. White gets his first Pawn there on move 80 and his second on move 84; meanwhile, the King has come up to support the Pawns.

If Black plays <80 -- Rxg4> then <81 f7> assures coronation given that the King is on e3 preventing <81 -- Rf4>.

If Black plays <81 -- Rg1> then <82 f7> and the Pawn cannot be stopped after <82 -- Rf1 83 g6>.

The Black King is out of play throughout.

Jun-01-07  lauranorder: 78...Ra4?, wasting a tempo, seems to be the losing move ; Fritz suggests 78...Rc6 will hold the draw

Mar-27-11  Rick360: Why did Yanovsky play 40..Bf6 instead of 40..Bxf2?

  Sastre: 40...Bxf2 would allow <41.Re7 Kg7 42.Ra7 Rh8 43.Rxa5 Rh3+ 44.Kc2 Rh2 45.Kd1>, leaving Black with weak pawns on b4 and d5.

  Volcach: Instructive moments for me:

<28 Ra1!> Love the idea of swinging that rook over behind that a-pawn that wants to be pushed. It's tempting to just trade your Rook on c1 seeing as you can never force the Black Rook off of c8. But instead, try to open up a new file for your Rook that you opponent is desperate to trade you off of.

<82 Kd4!> Bodying the Black King, stopping him from getting into the fight. In this situation the two connected passed pawns with one on the sixth can outplay the Rook.

Oct-28-22  Messiah: Impressive endgame, very nice.
Jul-20-24  andrea volponi: 78...Ra3!(draw) -Rxb2 Kxb2+ -kf4 Ra4 + -Kg5 Kc3 -f6 Ra1 -f7 Rf1 -kg6 kd4 -g5 ke5 -kg7 ke6 -g6 ke7 -kh7 Rg1 =.
