<number 23NBer>,
Not wrong! You wouldn't guess from this game that Gunsberg played a match for the world championship.

12.exd5 seems to be the error, opening up the e-file for Black's Queen.

MissScarlett: The <Field> of February 15th 1879 printed two games won by <Mr. M'Lennan (a talented young player)> against Mephisto (Automaton), but one can't be sure that Gunsberg was the operator. Regardless, it should still be attributed to the machine. See Mephisto vs G McLennan, 1879

The games are said to have been played <some time ago at the Westminster Aquarium>, so they may well date to 1878.
