Feb-07-05  PinkPanther: Good god, black got completely clowned in this game, ahhahahh.
Feb-08-05  Poisonpawns: Happens sometimes when two tacticians clash, you get either a boring game, because both guys see everthing or a knockout. This was a knockout!
Feb-08-05  aw1988: <Poisonpawns> Agreed. One time when Tal landed a very short and bloodless draw against Velimirovic, I smiled and told Misha "Well well, the infamous Velimirovic cannot take down Tal, yet Tal is afraid to sacrifice his normal dinner of knights!" to which he wittily responded "Yes, I fear it is the hospital food. that place is too boring, yet it seems to fit the hunger. The old Tal cares more about positional concerns now, you know. But now I believe, a gourmet is in order."
Feb-08-05  PinkPanther: <aw1988>
He said this all in English? Did this actually happen to you??
Feb-09-05  aw1988: <PinkPanther> Yes... Tal spoke english as well- lucky him, I speak only english and very rickety (is that a word?) french.
Feb-15-05  Knezh: I read in Tal's biography that his ENglish was not that fluent..
Feb-16-05  hintza: I'm sure Ray Keene could tell us how good Tal's English was. I recall he has played against the Magician once or twice.
Sep-01-08  dzhafner: I believe this game has a duplicate. Also, it is amazing how fast Tal turns his opponent's dark bishop into a bad bishop after trading off the light bishops (5 moves).
Jun-06-14  john barleycorn: A french game demonstrating that when black gets rid of his bad bishop it doesn't solve all his problems. In fact, he exchanged the bad bishop for a bad knight on a6, Tal opens the game and 19.Rxc6 finds Tal in his element.

Tal's command of English was actually quite good.

<dzhafner....Also, it is amazing how fast Tal turns his opponent's dark bishop into a bad bishop after trading off the light bishops (5 moves).>

Granda did not play the French often compared to the Sicilian, the open games or even the Caro-Kann. Perhaps a lack of feel got him into a position where he aimed for a positionally desirable, yet strategically inferior line with the natural exchange of light-squared bishops.

Once Tal played for c4 and the position opened out, Black's inferior development told.
